U.S. Reverses on Reciprocal Tariffs — Canada’s Situation Unchanged

On April 9, 2025, U.S. President Donald Trump did a U-turn and instituted a 90-day reprieve on the reciprocal tariff rates for 185 countries. However, a baseline 10% tariff rate for all those countries still applies, and tariffs on China were increased to 145%. Importantly, no new tariffs were announced for Canada, but the tariffs on Canadian steel, aluminum, autos, and non-compliant CUSMA goods remains.
